RM2.8B Helios Solar Park In Kelantan Targets Operations By End-2028

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 – The RM2.8 billion Helios Solar Park in Gua Musang, Kelantan, with a planned generation capacity of one gigawatt (GW), is targeted to commence commercial operations by the end of 2028.

Helios Solar AG chief operating officer Datuk Dr Zuraidi Ishak said the large-scale renewable energy project would be developed in two phases, with each phase having a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW).

The project will also be supported by a 1,600 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to enhance the stability and reliability of electricity supply.

“The project is strategically located with access to two 275-kilovolt substations and is supported by approximately 3,000 acres of land.

“We are targeting commercial energy generation for the first phase by the end of 2028 to meet the timeline for the available incentives,” he told a press conference after the signing ceremony for the Helios Solar Park Kelantan project here on Wednesday.

Also present was Helios Photovoltaic Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Ong Thuan Ming.

Zuraidi said several strategic partners had been appointed to provide the technical expertise required to ensure the project is implemented according to schedule.

AHA Consultant has been appointed as the lead engineering and high-voltage consultant, while Angkasa Consulting Services will undertake the civil, structural, mechanical and electrical works.

Total Power Solutions will conduct the power system study, while TNB Research Sdn Bhd (TNBR) will lead the environmental and social impact assessment for the project.

Meanwhile, Ong said the company was confident of securing both market demand and financing for the project, driven particularly by the growing energy requirements of the data centre industry.

“We have received significant enquiries from data centres, which require substantial amounts of electricity. We believe the project is timely in meeting this growing demand.

“In terms of financing, the investment value is below RM3 billion and we are on track to issue RM2 billion worth of sukuk in the near future,” he said.

Ong said the company had also recently been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and currently operates as a zero-debt company, providing it with greater flexibility to explore various financing instruments to support the project.
